Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta

The centre of commercial life in Padua, these two adjacent squares host a lively open-air market every day, with stalls selling fruit, vegetables, spices and typical local products. In the evening the area is transformed into a meeting place for an aperitif, with numerous bars serving the traditional Paduan spritz.

Scrovegni Chapel

A masterpiece of art immersed in the heart of the city. A true Renaissance jewel, decorated with frescoes by Giotto that narrate the life of the Virgin and of Christ with extraordinary intensity.

Prato della Valle

With its 88,000 square metres, it is one of the largest squares in Europe and one of the symbols of Padua. In the centre is Isola Memmia, an island surrounded by an elliptical canal, with 78 statues representing illustrious people connected to the city. Once the site of fairs and jousting tournaments, today it is the perfect place to stroll, relax or enjoy cultural events and markets.

Caffè Pedrocchi

Opened in 1831 and famous for having once been ‘the café without doors’, the Pedrocchi is a Paduan institution. Frequented by intellectuals, artists and patriots of the Risorgimento, it was a place for meetings and cultural ferment. Today it retains all its nineteenth-century charm and offers the famous Pedrocchi coffee, a speciality made with espresso, cream and mint.

University of Padua

Founded in 1222, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe, famous for having had Galileo Galilei among its teachers. One of its most fascinating treasures is the Anatomical Theatre, the oldest permanent anatomical theatre in the world, built in 1594 to allow medical students to attend dissections of corpses. Even today you can visit the charming wooden structure, a true symbol of the scientific progress of the time.
